Sand Prairie opens hotspots

Sand Prairie, a service of Jo-Carroll Energy, announced Tuesday it will be opening and increasing the number of hotspots available throughout the cooperative’s service territory.

“Concern for community is one of our core principles, and this is one small way we can help keep our members and communities connected during the coronavirus outbreak,” said Mike Casper, president and CEO of Jo-Carroll Energy.

Sand Prairie hotspots will be available for anyone who needs them – including the general public - for free.

Hotspots can be found at the following locations:

  • Elizabeth Community Building/Terrapin Park
  • Grant Park in Galena
  • Downtown Mt Carroll
  • Downtown Galena
  • Downtown East Dubuque

Once at a hotspot, select the “SP HotSpot” network name in the list of available networks and launch a browser.

The broadband team is assessing inventory and evaluating possible additional locations.

“Our team of broadband technicians will continue to work in support of our network operations,” Casper noted. “We are continuing to monitor levels of usage and the demand on the network. Although we are seeing spikes in use and expect this to continue, our networks are performing well.”
